Some things never change, some things are perpetually changing; namely cruise options! Years ago I worked in the travel “representation” business. As part of our portfolio, we assisted our cruise company clients with the marketing of their cruise products overseas. It involved educating the market on “cruising” as a vacation option. Recently we’ve had several cruise companies and cruise brokers in our HQ in Scottsdale presenting options for MEETINGS on cruises. The industry has come a long way, not only in product offerings, itineraries, and market segmentation, among other items; but also in advancements with purpose-built meeting space to attract meetings and events. While the number of new hotels opening over the last few years had declined, the number of cruise ships has increased, adding fresh product, amenities and options for their customers. According to Statistia, more than 41,000 new berths will be added by cruise companies in 2015 and 2016. Today they are in head to head competition with land based meeting programs; often winning the business with cost/value comparisons. It’s an interesting concept offering fresh ideas with potential cost savings options for our clients. So while some things never change, this is one thing that has changed for the better for our MICE clients. Want to learn more about meetings on cruises? Contact us.
